Mindfulness-Based Art Therapy in Schools: Tools to Implement mindfulness-based art therapy in your classroom

This workshop will incorporate hands-on mindfulness-based art therapy activities that you can use in your classroom to increase your students' emotional regulation, self-awareness, and self-expression.

Most studies done on mindfulness with children and adolescents have been conducted in school settings. The rationales for using mindfulness-based intervention in schools include the accessibility, the cost-effectiveness of integration within the classroom, and alignment with the goals of 21st-century education including self-regulation, creativity and problem-solving. Furthermore, there are increasing stress-related problems related to childhood and adolescence such as stress, social pressure, mental disorders, and learning disorders. Studies show that mindfulness-based interventions in schools can improve cognitive performance and increase resilience to stress. Using mindfulness-based art therapy in schools can improve academic success through increased participation and trust. The arts-based method can help to demonstrate mindfulness-based concepts including self-expression, understanding emotions, self-compassion, and non-judgmental awareness.
